Llanishen RFC - A True Community Club

Hi All

Hope you are all looking forward to Christmas.

Llanishen RFC is a proud community club, that I like to think is at the heart of the community. My honest opinion is that we can all always make more of a contribution to the local community, so with Christmas coming now is the time to put our collective money where our mouth is!

To that end we are going to be looking towards the following 3 initiatives.

Food Bank:

Christmas is just around the corner, and without being too sentimental, we will all no doubt enjoy a warm and happy Christmas, where others won’t for a variety of reasons. To this end I propose that the club makes a food collection, similar to harvest festival used to be at school, whereby everyone brings in some non-perishable food and drink that we as a club can contribute to a local Cardiff food bank that will help those who need some assistance to enjoy their Christmas. If everyone could spread the word and try to encourage everyone to contribute that would be great. With the number of people associated with and members of the club we could make a real difference. If you have anything to contribute, you could either leave it at the clubhouse next time you are there or if easier leave with Ian Burns at the 3G Hub. Let’s not say we are a community club and then not support the community. All contributions welcome and greatly appreciated.

Llanishen Luncheon Club:

On another community note, I and other members of the club would like to introduce a meal for local pensioners at the clubhouse, perhaps once per month but would again need the generous assistance of club members and sponsors. I think a simple meal for some local vulnerable or lonely people would be fantastic, perhaps on a Saturday lunchtime when they may well enjoy the busy nature of the clubhouse with youth and senior sides being around pre-match. If anyone would like to help out or make a contribution to cover some of the costs of this, please let me know.

Defibrillator:

Finally, I would like to raise money so that we can have a defibrillator on site at the new hub. We are reviewing grant options but felt that if each age group / section dug into their pockets then we could raise a substantial amount without waiting on grant money. We all know the importance of these, and by way of example one of bar men saved a life last week in the community using the defibrillator that we have at our Clubhouse. No better illustration is needed as to the value of these.

We don’t need huge contributions on any of these to make a real impact, so I would ask everyone to help out please as best you can. If you can’t help financially, then don’t worry, there may be other ways that you could help. If anyone knows of sponsors, food shops, etc. that may want to help out, then please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks

Regards

Gary Phillips
