Close win for 2s.

A much changed Llanishen 2s travelled across the city for an away game at St Joseph's. The visitors dominated the first quarter, a long pass from Lewis Marshall allowed Elian Owen to cross in the corner, Keiron Maguire ran strongly to get a second and then a line out steal from outstanding flanker Mike Williams allowed the pack to set up a drive, hooker Adam Payne getting the touch down, full back Maguire converted all three and with a 21 - 0 lead it looked like it was going to be a comfortable afternoon for Llanishen. However, the home side came back strongly, the momentum of the game changed and two converted tries brought them back to within 7 points at half time. The second half was a see-saw 40 minutes, Maguire kicked a penalty and then a try by James Chapman extended the lead to 15 points, the defecit was cut when the Joes got their second try, the conversion hitting the post. Llanishen then scored what many watching thought would be try of the season, if such a thing existed at this level, after breaking from their own half with good support and excellent offloading involving most of the side, the final pass went to the versatile Harri Duffy to get a fifth Llanishen try, Maguire adding the extras. Just as in the first half, the Joes fought back, they scored two more tries, one was converted to reduce the defecit to 5 points, they pressed hard in the final couple of minutes, but determined and sometimes desperate defence kept them out. In a game where both sides played some excellent rugby, the final score was St Joes 2s 31 Llanishen 2s 36.
